Singapore: Virtual Worlds (Web2.0, Mktg, Finance,IT)
Length of internship: 3-6 months, Start Date: asap

This company offers a range of services and products in the financial area for virtual worlds such as Second Life. It is a fast growing startup with currently close to 20 employees.

Internship Tasks: The company offers internships in Finance, Marketing, IT and Web Design

1. Position (Finance):
The intern will work directly with the CEO and COO in the areas of financial modeling, accounting, budgeting, financial projections and management. There will be interesting challenges for this intern as he/she will be involved in the designing new financial products for a brand new market. Accounting is another interesting challenge as the company deals will significant amounts of virtual currency, thus blurring the lines of traditional accounting rules and methods.

One of the most exciting immediate projects that the company is working on now is developing an Artificial Intelligence based model that predicts credit risk in virtual economies. We are currently also expanding our product range so the intern will play a big role in modeling new products. Further down the road in 2008, the intern will also have an opportunity to model products for new virtual worlds which will have different set of rules from the existing one.

2. Position (Marketing):
The intern will assist the VP of Sales & Marketing and the COO in areas including
sales, marketing business development and operations. This allows the intern to be involved in a wide cross-section of the company and thus provides much learning opportunities. The intern would participate and also affect the company’s brand building, establishing of sales channels and operations in a radically new market such as virtual worlds. The immediate major project is a large scale Christmas campaign.

The immediate project would be a large scale Christmas campaign within Second Life. Early 2008, the company will also be aggressively expanding its reach in Second Life and also doing a rebranding exercise. We will simultaneously be expanding into new virtual worlds in Q2 2008, which would require us to establish brand new sales and marketing channels within the new virtual world.

3. Position (Developer)
The intern will work directly with the CTO to maintain and upgrade the existing
system. Because we are rolling out new products and expanding into new virtual worlds, the intern will also have the opportunity to learn new technologies and be involved in designing new products and systems which will have significant impact on the company.

An upcoming major project would be to assist the CTO in building a web-based
payment system that would allow merchants selling real world goods to accept virtual currency payments. This system would essentially allow users to purchase real world goods with virtual currency.

4. Position (Web/Graphic Designer)
The intern will work with the VP of Sales & Marketing and the rest of the marketing
team to design and create marketing collaterals. The intern will be involved in defining
the "look and feel" and overall branding of the company.

Your Qualifications:
- Student or graduate of business or IT studies
- Affinity to virtual worlds, Web 2.0 business models
- Fluent English skills

Remuneration:
Salary: 800 SGD/month plus bonus (depending on performance). Fulltime employment after internship is possible for the right candidates.
